27.08.2010 Nightwish poletni tabor - poročilo #6
Ta teden so si fantje vzeli 4-dnevni premor. Ker je Marco zaposlen s svojimi projekti, Anette pa se bo pridružila fantom čez 2 tedna, so si preostali člani popestrili teden tako, da so formirali skupino The Myötähäpeä.
Skupino sestavljajo F1 voznik Heikki Kovalainen (bobni), Toni Virtanen (vokal), Jukka (klaviature), Tuomas (bas/kitara) in Emppu (bas/kitara).
Tuomas je v dnevnik poletnega tabora zapisal:
Well, there hasn't been happening that much since the last time Jukka posted the blog. We decided to take a 4-day break from rehearsing the songs 'cause there isn't much we can do to them anymore. Even though every time we dive into them something small comes up; new drum fill here, a new bass line there, new orchestral arrangement hook somewhere, etc. It's just that we've been rehearsing and toying with the songs so much (gotta believe it, just look at the photos of this blog) that everyone here's having a bloat.
Also since Marco is busy doing his own things until tomorrow and Anette not joining the camp until in 2 weeks, there wasn't much else for us three to do than..
...To form a new band called The Myötähäpeä. This amazing group of mind-blowing virtuosity combined with a versatile repertoire includes such names as Heikki Kovalainen of F1 Lotus on the drums, and Mr. Toni Virtanen on the vocals. Jukka took over the keys, whereas Emppu and me swapped between guitar and bass to make it a real challenge. Jamppa Lautamäki of the Nightwish website-fame filled the first open backing vocals - position, but there's still room for more behind the mics. Our setlist now consists of two classics of two bands we've been fans of forever (Sukset by Popeda & For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica) but with an intro & outro, Toni's magnificent speaks in between the songs, a bass solo and fireworks we will be able to put up a fantastic full-lenth rock show anytime, anywhere. Well, we still have that ballad to rehearse, there's nothing like seeing a lighter-sea of 80000 people swaying gently to "Nothing Else Matters" or "Winds Of Change". Check out the video of our first ever rehearsals below. Not quite on the level of the originals, but at least we had fun!
Heikki & the gang had to leave on Sunday morning but Toni stayed with us for another fishing- and poker-filled day. He fell in love with this place, and might be joining us later on for some songwriting sessions. Maybe the upcoming Apulanta - tunes will have their breeding here..?
After introducing Heikki to the decadent world of bandlife and rock 'n roll it was his turn to throw us the bait. He had arranged a chance to try out KF2 & KF3 cart racing vehicles in the track of Ylämylly. A horrendously fantastic experience! A surprisingly physical sport, too. Jukka was by far the best driver of us, timing unbelievable lap times in pouring rain. Emppu and Toni also did ok but I was more of a yellow-bellied plug on the track, losing 20sec per lap to Jukka due to the imprisonment in my own survival instinct.
Anyway, it was a great day and a wonderful, new experience! A huge thanks goes to Heikki, Jani and Hästis for organizing this, and for the 2 mechanics, Mikko & Janne who took care of us on the track.
Back to the camp, diving back into the Nightwish songs with fresh fuel in our tanks. There's been one song which has been giving us loads of trouble during the past weeks. I feel it has great potential but somehow it just doesn't work as it should. On Tuesday morning we finally nailed it, giving it a whole new guitar / synth riff with a touch of Van Halen and that was the cure. I also rewrote and simplified the lyrics to the chorus. A song / album is never fully ready, you just have to stop your journey at some scenic place and enjoy the view.
Autumn is here, enjoy the change & take care everyone!

When checking the pictures from our summer camp, one might think that it's all about fishing, watersports and boozing. That's actually mostly true... but we have gotten something done here musicwise too! And hey, we never said this is a band camp, it's a SUMMER CAMP!!! =)
Last weekend Marco abandoned us three here to take care of his responsibilities with Tarot and Northern Kings. We decided to rehearse the last piece, a monster of a song and to go through parts of the other songs that we yet didn't feel 100% satisfied with. We came up with plenty of little tricks that bring some needed final edge to the songs; some overlong fills, little breaks and some little time signature changes. The last song turned out to be a great tune that would have enough parts for three full songs, but which still forms a tight entirety of fast riffing, slow, beautiful mood and heavy-duty-rhythm.
On Monday we took a day off and headed to the lake with a professional fishing team. You've probably already seen some of the catches from the picture section. It's encouraging to see that fishing is not just a matter of good luck. Knowledge and the gear has a big effect on the results. But of course, to catch a real big one you need a little blessing from above…
On Thursday we went to see a baseball match of KIPA-90, our local pride. The team played really well, but unfortunately the opponent was slightly better. It's already the end of the season and at the very moment of writing this diary the last game ended in defeat so for us the season is over. But the team showed great potential and hopefully next year we hold the cup.
On the weekend we had some friends coming over, including Sami Vänskä and we spent a weekend full of watersports, darts and laughter. The best activity being seated in a "doughnut"and going with full speed behind the boat. You know it's real good when fun and pure terror meet in a midway... I also finally got myself to try water skiing with just one water ski, and to everybody's surprise I nailed it on a first try! What a mighty feeling it was! JIHAA!!!
Now we are taking time off until Thursday. Once in a while it's good to take some distance to the songs to have a fresh view.

Tuomas je v dnevnik poletnega tabora zapisal:
Še en teden je za nami, teden vaj, oblikovanja pesmi, znojenja, čolnarjenja in ribolova.
Največje veselje nam je dala Anette, ki je rodila dečka. Iskrene čestitke in blagoslov družini.
Pesmi #9 in #10 sta dobili svojo obliko. Pesem #9, pesem z nesramno dobrim refrenom, nas vrača k našim koreninam. Domnevam, da je ta pesem Emppu najljubši del albuma. Vedno sem imel težave s kratkimi, preprostimi - strukturiranimi pesmi. Vendar ta pesem zveni zelo obetavno tudi mojim ciničnim ušesom in srcu.
Zadnja pesem, ki se pripravlja, bo tudi zadnja pesem na albumu. Je noro ambiciozna pesem. Predvidevam, da bo dolga približno 20 minut. Za dokončanje pesmi potrebujem še nekaj časa.
Imamo le še eno pesem, da jo zvadimo, zraven noro ambiciozne pesmi. Gre za akustično izvedbo v stilu "The Islander". Z Emppuem potrebujeva nekaj Guinness-ov in vetroven dan, da bo pesem zaživela. In pa seveda Troyeve dude.
Marco je zapel že skoraj vse demo vokale za nove pesmi, tako da pesmi že dobivajo svoj smisel in da bo Anette lahko slišala vokalno melodijo in stimulacjo besedil. Zelo uživam v tem umirjenem procesu nastajanja pesmi, kjer je na koncu skoraj vedno vokal tisti, ki pesmem povzdigne v višave.
Včeraj sem se odpeljal v Lappeenranto, da sem z Kotiteollisuus zaigral novi demo.
Imamo še 3 tedne časa, preden začnemo s snemanjem demo albuma. Zato je zdaj čas, da pesmi dodelamo in naredimo najboljše kar znamo. Všeč mi je, da nas nič ne preganja. Sedaj je pa že čas, da ulovimo to postrv.

Anette je v soboto, 30.07.2010 povila zdravega fantka, velikega 52 cm in težkega 3930 gramov.
Anettino sporočilo:
It is for me so wonderful to tell you that yesterday, July 30th at 16.28, mine and Johans son was born;=)
He was 52 cm tall and his weight was 3930 gram.
We have tried to get him out the natural way since tuesday and used different methods, but like with my first son, I didn´t get enough strong contractions so it was decided to finally get him out through a c-section.
We all are just fine but still in the hospital where we are resting and just being so happy to have this beautiful and precious boy with us. Life is so wonderful and I am so, so happy and just floating with joy;=)

Dober dan vsem!
Ura je 09:00. Pijem jutranjo kavo, prebiram najnovejše NHL novice in pišem to poročilo. Le kdaj sem postal zasvojen s pisanjem blog sporočil? Zadnji dnevi so bili zelo vroči in ne spomnim se, kdaj je nazadnje bilo tako vroče. Osvežitev z vodnimi športi in čolnarjenje še nikoli ni tako prijalo kot zadnje dni. Nekaj smo delali na novih pesmih, čeprav soba za vaje z 35 stopinjami celzija ni bila najprimernejše mesto kjer bi se želeli zadrževati.
Pesem "Nukkumatti", kot ji vsi pravimo, je meni ena najljubših izmed novih pesmi in je pesem, ki vam bo zagotovo narisala nasmeh na vaš obraz. Vsaj tistim je, ki so do sedaj pesem že slišali.
Vadili smo pesem, ki je bolj kot ne napisana po meri Troya. Zvok dud in c-del kitare Emppa tvorita prijetno melodijo.
Pesem #8 nas je popeljala v povsem nove vode. Je nekaj popolnoma drugačnega od tega, kar smo kadarkoli naredili. Za to pesem smo vsi morali poiskati nove načine igranja naših instrumentov in uporabo vokalov. Pesem je izjemen izziv in komaj čakam, da slišim Anette in Marca, da jo zapojeta.
V nedeljo so nas obiskali fantje iz skupine Northern Kings. Dogovorili smo se, da lahko pridejo in uporabijo naše prostore za nekaj skupnih vaj pred prihajajočimi nastopi. Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica) in Kai Hahto (Wintersun) sta me pozdravila z dvema steklenicama Yellow Tail, s katerima smo uživali v mraku ob jezeru. Najlepša hvala fantom za obisk.
Čas je, da se danes zatopim v Marcov vokal, morda še kaj delamo s pesmijo #9. Nato pa se posvetimo 5kg postrvi, ki se nam izmika že cel teden.

21.07.2010 Nightwish poletni tabor - poročilo #2
Tuomas je v dnevnik poletnega tabora zapisal:
1. teden je skoraj za nami. Jukka, Emppu in jaz smo do sedaj vadili na 5-ih pesmih. Marco se je pridružil sinoči. Imel je nekaj festivalnih nastopov s skupino Tarot.
Konec dneva bomo zaključevali z delom na teh pesmih in morda poskusili s pesmijo #6.
Pesem #1 se končuje s petjem enega najboljših zborov, s katerim smo kadarkoli sodelovali, s klasičnim Nightwish c-delom težkih kitarnih zvokov. Tako zaključek hkrati vsebuje veliko nizov kitarnih riff-ov, glasno petje in igranje na vso moč.
Zaščitni znak.
Pesem # 2 je mešanica med Van Halen, Pantera, glasov iz norišnice in Quentin Tarantina. Pesem počasi postaja živa.
Z Emppu-em sva zaključila akustičen del pesmi, ki je bil lepa vrnitev nazaj h koreninam! Zveni podobno Moomin Valley - Christmas Carol.
Še ena pesem z vračanjem nazaj h koreninam. Na presenečnje vseh, je trenutno ta pogrebna koračnica vsem najljubša pesem.
Glasbo za pesem #5 je napisal Marco. Čudovita spevna skladba z refrenom, ki se ponovi 5-krat. Pesem ima lepe akustične teme in d-del, ki ostaja še nedodelan.

17.07.2010 Nightwish poletni tabor 2010 - poročilo #1
Fantje skupine Nightwish so se včeraj, skoraj natanko štiri leta po zadnjem poletnem taboru,
na katerem je nastal zadnji album "Dark Passion Play", ponovno zbrali v idilični finski podeželjski vasici Sävi.
Anette se bo fantom zaradi nosečnosti pridružila nekoliko kasneje.Nightwish poletni tabor 2010 so fantje odprli z dvigom Nightwish taborne zastave. Prvi dnevi poletnega tabora bodo namenjeni sprostitvi in druženju, nato pa bodo začeli z vajami in s snemanjem novega demo albuma.
Tuomas ima zaključenih 12 pesmi, vendar še vedno dela na nekaterih besedilih. Ko bo demo album posnet, pesmi razvrščene in bo novi album popoln, bo demo album predan gospodu Pip Williamsu, ki bo nadaljeval delo z orkestrom. Znan je že datum snemanja albuma v studiju, to je 15. oktober. Pri studijskem snemanju bodo ponovno prisotni Londoski orkester z zborom in Troy Donockley.

Včeraj, 22. junija, se je Jukki and Sati Nevalainen rodila zdrava deklica, težka 3.770 gramov in velika 50,5 cm.

13.06.2010 "Amaranth" video prime-time premiera v ZDA
"Amaranth" video bo premierno predvajan na TV programu Reelz Channel v glasbeni oddaji Movies & Music (večerno predvajanje),
kot del epizode z naslovom "Rocker Girls". Oddaja bo predvajana v ponedeljek, 14.06.2010.Predvajanje videa je rezultat kampanje Severnoameriškega Nightwish fan kluba Oceansouls of America, ki se je zavzemala za predvajanje Nightwish video posnetkov na tem TV programu.
